About Carolyn Sandel

Carolyn Sandel, LICSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of leadership experience in the aging services field. She works with adults and older adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, caregiving stress, grief, and relationship challenges.

Before founding Older Stronger Wiser Counseling, Carolyn served as Executive Director of nationally recognized nonprofit organizations in the Boston area. At Goddard House Assisted Living, she led innovative programs, including guiding the community to become the first assisted living residence in Massachusetts to receive national accreditation through SAGECare as an LGBTQ-affirming community. She also developed a Parkinson’s support program serving individuals living with Parkinson’s and other movement disorders, as well as their caregivers.

Carolyn brings this depth of experience into her clinical work, offering a compassionate, grounded, and practical approach. She understands the emotional complexity of caregiving, aging, identity shifts, and health-related stressors.

Her therapeutic approach is holistic and evidence-based. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness-based therapy, and empowerment-focused strategies to help clients process trauma, reduce anxiety and depression, build coping skills, and create meaningful change. She holds a Certification in Mindfulness and Psychotherapy and thoughtfully incorporates mind-body techniques into treatment.

Carolyn believes therapy should feel safe, collaborative, and even, at times, infused with gentle humor. Her goal is to help clients feel stronger, more resilient, and more connected to the life they want to live.
